On September 8, 1935, a beautiful soul, Mrs. Josie Lee Stokes Sanders, affectionately known as “Baby,” was born to the late Willie and Lillie Leflore Stokes in Carthage, Mississippi. She was raised in Leake County, where she attended school in the Leake County School District and remained a lifelong resident.
At an early age, Josie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a devoted member of Christian Union M.B. Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she carried it with grace, love, and strength.
Josie was a woman who loved her family unconditionally and took great pride in who she was and where she came from. She met and married the love of her life, the late Bob Sanders, and their union was blessed with four children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Sanders; her children, Ephrin Triplett and Bernard Sanders; and eight siblings: LV Luckett, Bessie Luckett, Sonny Stokes, LE Stokes, Annie Bell Zollicoffer, Walter Stokes, Dan Stokes, and Annie Pearl Guess.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving daughters, Barbara Triplett and Anita Sanders; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one devoted sister, Lillie Bell Wingo; a special son-in-law, James Gray; and a vast array of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mrs. Sanders was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was full of life, with a bright personality that brought joy to all who knew her. There was never a dull moment in her presence. Her love, laughter, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
