Kathryn Lewis Obituary

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain. But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:30-31.

Mother Kathryn Lewis was born on June 10, 1938 to the late David Henderson and Geneva Johnson Bolton. She was born the seventh child of twelve children.

She professed her faith in Jesus Christ in the earlier years of her life and joined Tribulation M.B. Church in Carthage, MS and later joined Truelight Missionary Baptist Church in Walnut Grove, MS where she was an active member until she gained her wings.

She received her education at O.E. Jordan High School in Carthage, MS.

On September 15, 1956, Kathryn was united in holy matrimony to Willie C. Lewis and to this union eight children were born.

Kathryn dedicated herself to her family and relished her role as a provider and caretaker for her children and grandchildren. She had an infectious smile and never met a stranger. She was a very graceful lady that took pride in her appearance and had a unique bond with her immediate and extended family. She had a passion for baking, sewing, and looked forward to our family’s Sunday dinner. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

Kathryn spent countless years working at Carthage Company and Garan Inc., a job in which she loved and thrived. In 2003, she retired from Garan Inc., and devoted herself to gardening, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty six years; Willie C. Lewis, a son; Willie C. Lewis twin daughters, nine siblings; Robert Groves, Willie James Groves, John Lee Groves, Thomas Groves, Virginia Hadley, Albert Dean Bolton, Howard Jean Bolton, Willie Jean Gunn, and Hattie Marie Williams.

She transitioned this life on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 12:35 a.m. at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.

She leaves to treasure her memories, five children; Elizabeth York, Frances Parhm (Donald), both of Walnut Grove, MS, Stephen Lewis (Amanda), of Madison, MS, Teressa Jackson (Leon), of Ridgeland, MS, and Andre Lewis (Bearlain) of Monticello, AR. Nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Two loving sisters; Pearl Thelma Harvey of Woodhaven, Michigan and Mary Ann Fortune of Walnut Grove, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Kathryn was a blessing to her family and to those who were a part of her everyday life and will be missed sorely by the genuine love that she gave, her beautiful smile, and warm spirit. She was the rock of our family and we are forever grateful for our precious jewel.

Please keep the Lewis family in your prayers.
