Mother Elmira Leflore Canady

February 22, 1925 ~ October 18, 2022 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Obituary

Mother Elmira Leflore Canady, who graciously walked this earth for ninety-seven years, was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. She was a God-fearing, family oriented lady with style and grace. She was a firm believer in respect to all, young and elderly. She had a remarkable ability to reach people deeply and positively.

Born to Eleston Leflore and Ruby Lindsey Leflore on February 25, 1925, she was reared in the Galilee Community and received her education there. Later, she relocated and remained in the Thomastown Community, where she opened her heart and her home to many over the years. Her family influenced Elmira to be a loving and caring woman, always giving her time to others, and she incorporated this into her motherhood.

She began her walk in faith in her earlier years and joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She remained an active and faithful Mother of the Church and a member of the Mission Society. Her Christian life was as beautiful as she was, and due to her generous spirit, and pleasant personality, she was loved so well by her church family and pastor. During her periods of employment, Elmira was no stranger to hard work. She was well known for dropping nuggets of wisdom to each young person she encountered. Her encouraging words inspired them to be the best version of themselves. In her spare time, she enjoyed getting a few laughs by watching her Soap Operas, Western shows, and Family Feud, to name a few. She loved music, so she appreciated any chance her children and grandchildren could gather together and sing to her.

As the Matriarch of her family, she always wanted her family to remain close and to love one another, which took place throughout her ninety-seven years. She lived to see five generations of her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Ellis Canady, and Ronald Canady; a son in love, Leon Latiker; three grandsons, Travis Lynn Canady, Farrory "Ro" Canady, and Zachary Latiker; five siblings, Robert Leflore, Sidney Leflore, Ollie Mae Leflore McMurtry, Ruby Leflore Lewis, Zella Leflore; and two special aunts, Annie Mae Leflore Hartzog and Bertha Kirkland.

Her beautiful life will forever be treasured by her children, Angela Selena Latiker, Gloria Diane Luckett, Anthony Leflore, Teresa D. Leflore, Ellar Patricia Alexander (Jose'), and Sharon Canady. Daughters in love Nellie J. Canady, LaChelle Ashwood, Rubbie Ann Canady. Her thirty-seven grandchildren, eighty-one great-grandchildren, and forty-two great-great-grandchildren; Sister, Ruthie Nell Turner, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Elmira touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.

Her family grieves her loss, but they take comfort in knowing that she will reunite with her sons, grandsons, and other family members who has completed this earthly journey.
