Roderick Lashaun Cooks was born on March 13, 1979 to Annette Gray and Ricky Lynn Cooks.
Roderick attended Leake County Public Schools and later received his GED. In his youth, he spent many years attending First Baptist Church in Carthage, MS.
He was known to many as “Rod D.” Roderick was fearless and refused to let fear keep him from living life. He was a very outgoing person that lived life to the fullest. If you spent any amount of time in his presence you were going to laugh and have a good time. He was the life of the party or social gatherings. Roderick enjoyed constructing or building things. There was nothing that he couldn’t fix or construct. He simply needed to know your vision. I am sure many people can attest to the work he has done for them.
Roderick departed this life on May 17, 2024. He loved and he was loved by many.
Roderick leaves to cherish his memories: his three children; Rynell Gray, Tiyunna Cooks, and Timyra Brown, a grandchild; Rah’ri Gray, mother and bonus-father, Annette and Jerry Gray of Carthage; his father and bonus-mother, Ricky and Arma Cooks of Thomastown; his siblings, Cedric Cooks, Tracy Wingo, Shiquita Wingo, Shemeka Gray, Kendrick Gray, and Jerry M. Gray (preceded in death); his paternal grandmother, Bonnie Tillis; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roderick is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, J. W. and Vinnie Mae Leflore; paternal grandfather, Lester Cooks; and uncles, Browders, J. B. and Robert Leflore, Lonnie and Darryl Cooks.
