Roy Cook Obituary

Roy C. Cook, affectionately called “Lil Crown”, was born on April 27, 1965 to the late R.C. and Frankie Leflore-Cook in Carthage, MS.

He attended Carthage High School where he was involved in several sports and extracurricular activities. After high school, Roy immediately went into the workforce and ultimately worked until his health began to decline. In the midst of work and life, Roy found the time to come to Walnut Grove, MS where he knew he’d find his forever partner and on February 12, 1994, he married the love of his life, Gail B. Fortune. This union was blessed to produce three amazing children.

Roy was a faithful member of First Walnut Grove Church of God In Christ. He was always willing and able to do what was asked of him. Whether he was assisting in the mowing the church grounds or grilling for a repast, he was readily available to serve. In life, Roy was a well-known person. He was loyal, honest, and could get a laugh out of anybody. He enjoyed spending time with his friends but he thoroughly enjoyed spending precious moments with his grandchildren! As a matter of fact, he nicknamed them all!

Regardless of how awesome and amazing he was to us, God decided it was time for “Lil Crown” to receive “His Crown” on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at approximately 11:40 a.m. He was surrounded by those he loved and cared for the most.

Roy was preceded in death by; his parents, R.C. and Frankie Cook; a sister, Mary Jean Cook; his mother-in-law, Ollie Fortune; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Fortune.

He leaves to cherish his eternal memories; a loving wife of 31 years, Gail Cook of Walnut Grove, MS; three children; Cooper Davenport of Tupelo, MS, Delanius (Candetta) Cook and Braxton (Jayla) Cook of Walnut Grove, MS, a god daughter; Reagan Townsend also of Walnut Grove, MS five grandchildren; Tradarius Jordan, Kh’lianah Cook, Tyler Patrick, Kyla Cook, and Adalynn Cook, all of Walnut Grove, MS; six sisters; Walterine (Kenneth) Fortune of Walnut Grove, MS, Peggy Cook, Jenny Cook, Willie Ruth Cook, Brenda Cook, and Vicky Cook, all of Carthage, MS; three brothers; Otha (Kie) Cook of Killeen, TX, Kenrodia (Monica) Cook of Austin, TX, and Keith Cook of Carthage, MS; a Father-in-law Deacon Luckett Fortune, Sr. additional in-laws, Darnette (Odis) Flowers, LaTonya (Lefarn) McDonald, and Minister Steve (Alice) Fortune, all of Walnut Grove, MS; a Father-in-law, Deacon Luckett Fortune of Walnut Grove, MS; one god-daughter, Reagan Townsend of Walnut Grove, MS; his special friends, Mark Hudson, Terry Fortune, and John Wayne Smith; he also leaves a vast array of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and other friends.
